Former Telecom Minister A Raja is now at the centre of cheating the poorest of poor farnmers in land grab scam in his own constituency Perambalur in Tamil Nadu.
Farmers were allegedly forced to give up their land at dirt cheap rate to Green House Promoters partly owned by Raja's family. Land forcibly taken from the poorest farmers in Permabalur was sold seven months later to MRF at huge profits.
This is just the case in point. Farmer Govind Raju sold the land at 3 lakh per acre to Green House Promoters which later sold it to MRF at the profit of 50%, seven months later.
Govind Raju was among the 250 farmers allgedly forced to give up land at dirt cheap.
Raju said, "Minister (Raja) told us that MRF is setting up a factory here, so you should give up your land. When we refused to part with our land, Raja along with Sadiq Batcha threatened us that they will grab the land and pay us lower than the State Government. Mainly, it was Raja who threatened us along with Sadiq Batcha and his men."
